Gunung Kawi Sebatu temple isn't a large temple - its located around 40 kilometers from the main city Denpasar or only 20 minutes drive north ofUbud. Gunung Kawi Sebatu is one of Bali's prettiest temples - it is a quiet temple to which surroundings were enclosed by the forest.

A lot of fish are swimming in the fountain in the Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple. Feeding the fish with cakes are welcome and it is a great fun.

Feelings are said to be healed in this temple that overflows in beautiful water and green. The sound where the spring water flows to the having a bath place is very comfortable. Water clears completely and it is popular as the temple where holy water springs up to people. Local and tourist's lovers are often seen to feel time pass peacefully.

Sebatu Village is also known for the creativity of the villagers in creating woodcarving handicraft as seen in all the shop along the village. Almost all the temple's building in here are roofed by thatched of black hairy part from palm leaf. The roofless stone building in the middle is Padmasana, a chair for the ultimate God. This shrine is constructed within a small pool surrounded by wall, giving us an impression that it is floating. The bottom part of the shrine is built by concrete and lime stones while the upper carved part is made of wood with gold leaf color.

The Gunung Kawi Sebatu temple was built in homage to the God of preserver (Wisnu), who rules over water, and here one finds a number of natural spring and waterspouts. The Balinese believe that water is one of the forces of life. The etymology of Gunung Kawi means a fabricated mountain. It lies west of Sebatu village, which is elevated and its name means slipping on a stone.

Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, is located on the island of Bali near Ubud

Bali holiday packages this time will explain about the legacy of temple which is often called the elephant cave temple (pura goa gajah). This holy place Is one of the historic caves, which have been recognized by the United Nations Organizations (UNESCO) became one of the world heritage. The shrine is often called by the name of Goa Gajah temple, which located at Banjar Goa, Bedulu village, Blahbatuh district, Gianyar regency, with mileage about 5 km from Ubud tourist area, or about 45 minutes from Denpasar city. Goa Gajah (bali elephant cave temple) has been known since the reign of several kings in Bali island, such as:

• Sri Dharmawangsa Wardhana Marakata Pangkajastano Tunggadewa (in the year 1022 AD)
• Raja Anak Wungsu (in the year 1053 AD)
• Paduka Sri Maha Guru (in the year 1324 AD)

And name of the temple itself is actually derived from the word "LWA GAJAH", which was written by MPU Prapanca in 1365 AD based on the book inscription of Negara Kertha Gama. Goa Gajah temple built in the-11th century, when at that time still ruled by King "SRI BEDAHULU", In the reign of King Hayam Wuruk on Majapahit era written that "LWA GAJAH" is located at Bedulu village as a hermitage place of "BODADYAKSA". There is also mentioned about Kunjarakunjapada term meaning "DORMITORY KUNJARA" which in Sanskrit means"ELEPHANT". The dormitory kunjara is owned by holy man Rsi Agastya that located in Mysore (South India), where there are many wild elephants living around the hostel, so there is the possibility that Goa Gajah temple built to remind about the hostel Kunjarakunjapada in India.

Preliminary findings of Goa Gajah temple is starting from the Dutch East Indies official report by L.C. Heyting in 1923, which reported the discovery of Ganesha statue, Tri Lingga statue, also Hariti sculpture to the Dutch East Indies. Then Dr. W.F. Stutterhiem start doing advanced research in 1925, and in 1950 the Office Archaeological site of Indonesia through a part of the ancient buildings in Bali led by J.L. Krijgman conduct research and excavations in 1954 until 1979, and they found an ancient holy water pool with six (6) female statue equipped with fountain chest. And the existence of these statue are believed can give an aura cleansing also positive vibrations for visitors until now.

There is a building that stored the statue of Queen Brayut (Men Brayut) or Goddess Hariti, who initially had a bad character, but after getting a Buddhist lesson eventually she turns into a children lovers as seen on the statue. And next to the upper right side of the cave's wall, there are words "Kumon" and "Shy Wangsa" that written in letters quadratic Kediri, and the meaning of these words still unclear known by historians. Mount Batur is an active volcano located at the center of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung, Bali, Indonesia

The Ubud Monkey Forest is a nature reserve and Hindu temple

This cool and dense swathe of jungle, officially called Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana, houses three holy temples. The sanctuary is inhabited by a band of grey-haired and greedy long-tailed Balinese macaques who are nothing like the innocent looking doe-eyed monkeys on the brochures. Nestled in the forest, the interesting Pura Dalem Agung has a real Indiana Jones feel to it with the entrance to the inner temple featuring Rangda figures devouring children.

You can enter through one of the three gates: the main one at the southern end of Monkey Forest Rd; 100m further east, near the car park; or from the southern side, on the lane from Nyuhkuning. The forest has recently benefitted from an infusion of money. Useful brochures about the forest, macaques and temples are available. Note that the monkeys keep an eagle eye on passing tourists in hope of handouts (or an opportunity to help themselves). Don’t feed these creatures.

Across from the main entrance, the forest’s office accepts donations for a scheme to offset the carbon you created getting to Bali. Get a tree planted for 150,000Rp.

I’m a great fan of monkeys and apes. Back home my mum and I often visit Monkey World, an ape rescue centre in Dorset; when we went on safari in Kenya my favourite animal wasn’t one of the impressive big five, it was the gangster of the animal world – the baboon. So, I was pretty excited at the prospect of getting up close to some Macaques  at the Monkey Forest in Ubud – that was, until they started attacking us.

The Perils of the Monkey Forest

If you’ve never heard of the Bali Monkey Forest, here’s the lowdown. The forest forms a sanctuary for the monkeys, who are considered sacred and well protected; there’s even a temple inside the forest where people go to worship. Somewhere along the line the forest also became a tourist attraction. Visitors can stroll through it and see the monkeys up close, watch them play and eat, there’s even a woman outside the entrance selling bananas to feed them. Sounds like fun, right?

Before we even arrived we started hearing horror stories about the Monkey Forest; animals stealing cameras and wallets, chasing people and worse still, biting. A word about Macaques and monkeys in general – they might look cute but even the small ones are incredibly strong and have very big incisors. A bite can be extremely painful at the best of times, but in Bali there’s another hazard to consider – rabies.

The disease is quite widespread in Bali, we were warned by a doctor in Jakarta not to touch any animals on the island and to make sure we had our pre-rabies vaccines before we visited. Rabies can spend up to two years incubating in an animal before any symptoms appear and a bite from a rabid animal can be deadly if you’re infected and don’t receive treatment fast.

Since we’d already had our rabies vaccinations, however, we weren’t too worried. We’d be sensible and only take a camera with us so as not to attract the monkeys, we were prepared – it couldn’t be that bad, could it?

The Attack

Approaching the entrance to the forest we saw, with delight, the first monkeys swarming around the gate, playing, eating fruit and climbing around. As we ventured further in we stopped to watch the cute baby monkeys and some older, greedier ones snatching the best fruit dropped by the tourists. One man carrying a bag of fruit was pursued by a large monkey, who stood up on his hind legs snatching at the bag until its contents were empty.

1. Visit Museum Le Mayeur

Mandatory for art lovers. The former home of Belgian artist Adrien Jean Le Mayeur and his wife Ni Polok now serves as a museum. If you are in Sanur in July you have the opportunity to experience the spectacular sight of hundreds of kites in the skies - some kites as long as 10 meters and tails 10 times that length. The Bali kite festival is held on Padang Galak beach, 2 km north of Sanur and includes kite design and flight competitions.

10. Find the stone pillar at Pura Belangjong.

Honestly the stone pillar isn't that impressive a sight on its own, but knowing that the pillar is one of Bali's oldest man-made objects makes it interesting. The pillar dates back to 913 AD and you find next to the Belanjong Temple in the Southern part of Sanur. Just ask for directions and most people will know where to find the pillar.
